The Foundation for Anesthesia Education (FAER) has selected Ahmed Zaky, M.D., MSc, MPH, FASA, professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, as the recipient of the FAER Research in Education Grant. FAER is a 501(c)3 charitable and related organization of the American Society of Anesthesiologists.
The grant is designed to advance the careers and knowledge of anesthesiologists interested in the key elements of education in anesthesiology—curriculum, instruction and assessment. Zaky will use the $100,000 two-year funding award to study the project, "The Cardiac Implantable Electronic Device Application: A Novel Modality for Educating Cardiovascular Anesthesia Trainees."
This award results from an exemplary campus-wide collaboration effort between Zaky, lead investigator, and co-investigators Yuliang Zheng, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Computer Science, Ragib Hasan, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Computer Science, and Scott Snyder, Ph.D., professor and Director of Educational Accountability in the Department of Education. "This project is evidence of the rich and resourceful academic environment at UAB," said Zaky. "I am honored to collaborate with nationally and internationally recognized renowned investigators." The results of this study are foreseen to take medical education in anesthesiology to the next level using advanced technology.
