Stacy Wade, M.D., CMQ, has been named the inaugural Director of Faculty Retention in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
Wade received her Doctor of Medicine degree from UAB in 2009, followed by a residency and fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesia. Since 2020, she has taken on multiple leadership roles within the department, including QI Director for the Division of Obstetric Anesthesia and Associate Program Director for the Anesthesiology Residency Program.
“I can’t think of a better fit for this role than Dr. Wade,” says Dan E. Berkowitz, M.D., Alfred Habeeb Professor and Chair of the department. “She is enthusiastic about the future of our department, and this is exemplified through her dedication to UAB and inspiring work with both residents and faculty alike.”
Wade’s retention initiatives will be focused on strategic onboarding, with the goal of having new faculty members well informed on not only day-to-day clinical duties, but also departmental structure, research and educational opportunities, and administrative and scheduling support. She also plans to develop a mentoring structure to enhance the onboarding efforts.
“UAB can be an overwhelming place for new faculty,” Wade says. “I want them to have a faculty member who can help navigate our system. From where to find long 18g catheters to how to plug into resident and research opportunities, I want us to make their transition to UAB as smooth and welcoming as possible.”
