Colleagues,
With great optimism for the future, I am excited to announce the appointment of Ryan Densmore, M.D., as the new director of Non-Operating Room Anesthesia (NORA) in the UAB Heersink School of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.
Dr. Densmore is a highly talented clinician and emerging leader who brings valuable experience and insight to this important role.
Dr. Densmore earned his Doctor of Medicine from UAB and completed his residency at the University of Iowa, followed by a fellowship in Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia here in our department. He is currently an assistant professor in both the Division of Multispecialty Anesthesia and the Division of Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, where he holds dual board certifications. Dr. Densmore spends a significant portion of his time in complex interventional areas, such as the cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology labs, where his experience as a critical team member in high-risk environments has provided him with invaluable insights into the unique challenges of NORA settings.
In his new role, Dr. Densmore’s vision for NORA is to transform it into a fully integrated and specialized extension of our anesthesia services. He is committed to advancing educational excellence, standardizing protocols, fostering data-driven innovation, and optimizing workflows across NORA locations—all while promoting collaborative research initiatives. With his team-oriented leadership approach, Dr. Densmore is dedicated to continuous improvement with a strong focus on patient safety and excellence in care.
Dr. Densmore is exceptionally well positioned to lead NORA into a new era of growth and innovation, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of anesthesia care within the medical system. I look forward to the positive impact his leadership will have on our department and the broader health care community.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Densmore on this well-deserved appointment.
Sincerely,
Dan E. Berkowitz, M.D.
