UAB IT has finished implementing two changes to the email system intended to strengthen defenses against phishing emails: an anti-impersonation feature and a higher threshold for evaluating phishing emails.
As part of this change, incoming UAB emails that are not from a sender familiar to you may include a message alerting you about it. The message reads: “You don’t often get email from [sender],” with a link to a Microsoft informational page about phishing.
The intent of these messages is to help better protect you. On mobile email, you may see that message in the preview.
Keep in mind: These new tools help protect you from phish, but they are not perfect. Continue to be vigilant about suspicious emails, and report suspected phish via the Outlook Phish Reporting tool or by forwarding to
