Don’t you just love getting emails in your folder that you never signed up for?
Those are called spam, or junk, emails, and the name refers to unsolicited messages sent in bulk to multiple email addresses. Some spam messages are harmless and come from advertisers trying to push a product that might fit your demographic, but others may be phishing attacks trying to steal your information.
We have some tips that might help clean up those unwanted messages.
- Create a folder in Outlook. When you get a message that you did not ask for, move it over to the folder. When you get a few minutes of downtime, go through those messages, and unsubscribe from the sender.
- Block senders. If you unsubscribed but those messages are still ending up in your inbox you can block the sender.
- Use a secondary email. This one could be used for event sign-ups, online shopping, and other items that cause spam to be sent.
- Mark emails as spam. In Outlook you can select the three dots in the right-hand corner and select “Report Spam” for Outlook to move that sender out of the inbox and into the spam list.
If you think a spam message may be a phish, which is a malicious message attempting to steal important information, send it to our security team by using the new phish report button or forwarding it to
