UAB and UAB IT, along with all of Birmingham, are taking advantage of a “moment in time” to make significant change, UAB Vice President CIO Curtis A. Carver Jr., Ph.D., told a local startup founder recently.
Carver sat down with Matt Pierce, founder and CEO of Immediate, for one of the company’s regular “Business and Brews” video interviews.
UAB IT strives to achieve at least 100 wins for campus each year, Carver told Pierce.
“Our job is to improve the lives of those around us and help enable them to do great things,” Carver said.
Six years later, UAB IT has achieved more than 750 wins. Carver said he challenges UAB IT employees to be agents of innovation — a mindset shared among the technology community in Birmingham.
“We have a moment of time here in Birmingham to make these changes,” Carver said. “It’s not something that happened 40 years ago, and it’s not something happening 40 years from now, it is right now.”
