Nilu joined the Harbert Institute in 2021 with an extensive background in Business Accounting. She leads and manages all accounting and financial functions for the department. She supports and works closely with Executive Director Kathy Nugent and Director of Licensing and New Ventures Karthik Gopalakrishnan.

Prior to joining the Harbert Institute, Nilu served as a Finance Officer III in the UAB Department of Genetics Chair’s office from 2004 to 2020. She has a master’s in accounting, and her background includes more than 25 years of accounting, finance and business development in medical research and biomedical laboratories.

Prior to joining UAB, Nilu was an assistant controller at BioLife Plasma Services and a controller at Emageon Inc., a diagnostic imaging company. In her free time, she enjoys needlework, tennis and spending time with her family.
