IDEA Course Evaluations

What is IDEA?

IDEA Course Evaluation is a standardized system used to gather student feedback on teaching and learning experiences. It helps instructors and academic units assess instructional effectiveness, recognize strengths, and identify areas for improvement. The evaluation offers two survey types, Diagnostic and Learning Essentials, tailored to align with course objectives and provide meaningful insights.

At UAB, we use Anthology Evaluate as the platform to administer IDEA Course Evaluations, ensuring a streamlined and efficient process for collecting and analyzing feedback to support continuous improvement in teaching and learning.

Faculty Resources

• Instructions for the Faculty Dashboard (PDF)
• If you have any questions regarding your course selection, please contact your IDEA Course Evaluation Administrator Contact. The list of Administrators is located on the IDEA School Administrators tab.
• Note: IDEA Course Evaluation has a 5-response threshold; therefore, if the course doesn't get at least 5 responses, then no report will be generated.
• If you have any questions or concerns, please email support at idea@uab.edu.

Student Resources

• Student Dashboard access
• You are able to complete your course evaluations using either your phone, tablet, laptop, or any other internet compatible device.
• Once you complete your evaluation, you will no longer receive email reminders.
• You can start and stop your survey at any time during the survey week. You may also change your responses until the survey close date.

IDEA School Administrators

• If you have any questions or concerns, please review IDEA Administrator Manual prior to contacting support at idea@uab.edu.
• There are two IDEA forms that administrators can choose between:
  • Diagnostic Feedback (pdf) - 40 questions - A comprehensive tool that provides both summative and formative feedback about student progress on relevant course objectives, instructor teaching methods, and overall impressions of the instructor and course.
  • Learning Essentials (pdf) - 18 questions – (Formerly Short Form) Provides summative feedback about average student progress on relevant learning objectives and overall impressions of the instructor and course.
• Note: IDEA Course Evaluation has a 5-response threshold; therefore, if the course doesn't get at least 5 responses, then no report will be generated.
