Since UAB transitioned to a Limited Business Operations model in March, many faculty, staff, and students were unable to retrieve their bicycles from campus. To ensure their safety, UAB Sustainability, in coordination with UAB Transportation and UAB Police and Public Safety, is collecting bicycles that have remained in one place for more than two weeks and storing them. They will be safely stored and can be retrieved at the beginning of the Fall semester.
“Our concern is that cyclists on campus may have had to leave their bicycles when they returned home or sheltered in place,” said Bambi Ingram, interim UAB Sustainability Manager. “Abandoned bicycles are at risk of weather damage and theft.”
Bicycles that have been registered with UAB Transportation through the BikeUAB program will be easily identified. However, the departments are also taking measures to note the locations of all retrieved bicycles to ensure owners can identify their property when they return to campus.
