Civil Engineering undergraduate student Lizbeth Piceno was recently selected as the recipient of the 2024 Charles E. Alexander Memorial Transportation Engineering Scholarship Award. 

The award is given annually by the Alabama Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ALSITE) to one outstanding undergraduate student in the State of Alabama with a demonstrated interest in Transportation Engineering. The award includes a $10,000 scholarship.

Piceno is a member of the UAB Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Student Chapter. Her interest in transportation engineering goes back to January 2023 when she joined ALDOT’s Birmingham office as Professional Civil Engineer Trainee (PCET). She is also actively involved with Chi Epsilon, the American Society of Civil Engineer (ASCE) and American Concrete Institute (ACI) and volunteers for the UAB-Live Health Smart Alabama.

Virginia Sisiopiku, Ph.D., a professor in the Department of Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering, nominated Lizbeth for the award.
