Dr. Stephanie DeLuca is a developmental scientist who has examined the impact of intensive neurorehabilitation treatments on children and adults with neuromotor impairments. Dr. DeLuca’s interdisciplinary research has included clinical trials focused on treatment efficacy and effectiveness. Engagement of patients and families is a major theme of this work as “precision rehabilitation” rapidly evolves into the field. Dr. DeLuca has a goal of helping all individuals with disabilities become empowered members of their communities with equitable opportunities to maximize health and well-being, and Dr. DeLuca has worked domestically and internationally towards this future via interdisciplinary collaborations on projects funded by the National Institutes of Health, Humanity Inclusion, and the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. DeLuca serves as a member of the National Advisory Board on Medical Rehabilitation Research for the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and on the Research Committee for the International Alliance of Academies of Childhood Disabilities. Dr. DeLuca has also served as a national leader by serving as a Director at Large on the Board of Directors for the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy & Developmental Medicine (AACPDM) and previously chaired the Advocacy Committee for this organization and served on the Treatment Outcomes Committee. Currently, she serves on the Care Pathways Committee for AACPDM. Dr. DeLuca's current position is an Associate Professor at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute with additional appointments in the School of Neuroscience, Virginia Tech and the Department of Pediatrics at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
