The students are:
- Song Gao, a graduate student in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences (CIS), for the proposal “Dynamic Cognitive Game CAPTCHAs: Efficient Hybrid Attack Framework and Redesign for Counterattack” (Faculty Mentors: Dr. Chengcui Zhang and Dr. Nitesh Saxena).
- Jamin Johnston, a graduate student in the Department of Physics, for the proposal "Improved Carbide Tool Performance for Rock Drilling and Mining Operations using Boride Enhanced Vapor-deposited Diamond Coatings” (Faculty Mentor: Dr. Aaron Catledge).
Chengcui Zhang, Song Gao, and Nitesh Saxena. This program is open to all MS and PhD graduate programs in the College. The graduate students supported under this program will undergo training in intellectual property disclosure, patent filings, hands-on experience in assessing market and business potential of all the early-stage technologies. The program is organized in collaboration with the UAB Research Foundation (UABRF), the Birmingham Business Alliance (BBA), and the Innovation Depot in downtown Birmingham.
Jamin Johnston. To be eligible, students must be enrolled as a full-time Masters or PhD student in the College of Arts and Sciences with a graduate GPA greater than 3.0. Students are expected to be actively engaged in a research project and preferably admitted to candidacy in her/his program of study. The proposed research must have a potential commercial partner either in the Birmingham region or nationally and must include plans for further collaborative research with the external partner.The next opportunity to submit graduate entrepreneurship awards will be March 1, 2014.
