Dr. Sonal Singh has accepted a position at GLOBAL FOUNDRIES (a semiconductor manufacturing company) as a 'Senior Defect Engineer - Technology Development’. She will start her new position on May 4, 2015. Dr. Singh graduated with a Ph.D. in Physics from UAB in Fall 2013. The title of her dissertation was “INVESTIGATION OF NANODIAMONDS WITH SI-V DEFECT CENTERS FOR APPLICATIONS IN FLUORESCENCE-BASED SENSING AND DRUG DELIVERY”. Dr. Singh’s mentor was Dr. Aaron Catledge. Their research demonstrated a novel approach to precisely pattern fluorescent nanodiamond arrays with enhanced far-red photostable luminescence from silicon-vacancy (Si-V) defect centers. The precision-patterned nanodiamonds was achieved by a scanning probe “Dip-Pen” nanolithography technique using electrostatically-driven transfer of nanodiamonds from “inked” cantilevers. Their results have implications for the development of next generation fluorescent based devices and applications for sensing or drug delivery.
