Each semester, the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Alabama at Birmingham offers new, rare, or special topic courses in the “Cool Classes” series—encouraging students to explore unique subjects through innovative curriculums and state-of-the-art tools or methods.

Students earning degrees in studio art, communication, writing, music, theater and more are being recognized for their outstanding creative work.

Huang discovered a profession that incorporates both the arts and sciences when she became an illustrator for anatomy textbooks and scientific medical journals. “I couldn’t let go of either,” said Huang, who graduated in 2009.

The festival will celebrate the work of artists across all genres from the disability community, amplify voices and experiences, and advocate for change.
