Master Sergeant Metz enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 30, 2002. He completed Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he was awarded the Field Artillery (FA) 13B military occupational specialty.
MSG Metz currently serves as the Senior Military Science Instructor at The University of Alabama at Birmingham ROTC program. His previous assignments include First Sergeant for Alpha Battery 2nd BN 8th FAR, Operations Sergeant for 2nd BN 8th FAR, Senior Instructor and Master Gunner for the Fort Sill Noncommissioned Officer Academy, Platoon Sergeant for Alpha Battery 2nd BN 12th FA, Gunnery Sergeant for Bravo Battery 3rd BN 16th FA and Alpha Battery 1st BN 82nd FAR, Section Chief for Delta Troop 1st BN 82nd FAR, Cannoneer Alpha Battery 1st BN 10th FA, and Service Battery 1st BN 10th FA. MSG Metz’s deployments include Operation Iraqi
Freedom (five tours) and Operation Enduring Freedom.
MSG Metz’s military education include Master Educator Course, Master Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course (Commandant List), Advanced Leaders Course (Commandant List), Basic Leaders Course, FA Master Gunners Course, Basic Instructor Training, Sling Load Inspector, USAF Airlift Planner, Unit Movement Officer Course, Equal Opportunity Course, Combatives Level 1, Unit Armorer Course, and Combat Life Savers Course.
His awards and decorations include Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (7 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (5 OLC), Presidential Unit Citation Award, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation (2 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (1 Silver Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 4), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 4), Combat Action Badge, Master Gunner Badge, Basic Army Instructor Badge, and Driver’s Badge (Wheeled and Tracked). MSG Metz is also a member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara. MSG Metz is married to his wonderful wife Autumn and has three children Jade, Luke, and Sadie.
