MAJ Andrew P. McCornack grew up in the oilfields of Taft, CA. He enlisted in the Arkansas National Guard as an Infantryman in 2007 and joined the Henderson State university Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) in 2009. While at Henderson, he was a member of the Diving Team earning a varsity letter all four years and was also selected for the All-America Team in 2009. He graduated from Henderson State in 2011 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in History, was named a Distinguished Military Graduate and Distinguished Military Student, and received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry.
MAJ McCornack served as an instructor at the Leader’s Training Course at Fort Knox, KY prior to graduating the Infantry Basic Officer Leader’s Course on the Commandants List in 2012. Upon graduating Ranger School, his first assignment was to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC, deploying with 3-73 CAV to Ghazni Province, Afghanistan in support of OEF XII as a Dismounted Reconnaissance Platoon Leader and later served as the HHC Executive Officer in 2-501 PIR. After graduating the Maneuver Captain's Career Course on the Commandant’s List in 2015, MAJ McCornack was assigned to the 5th Ranger Training Battalion in Dahlonega, GA as a Mountaineering Platoon Tactical Trainer (RI) and as the Battalion’s Assistant Operations Officer. He was then assigned to the 1st Infantry Division at Fort Riley, KS in 2017, serving as the Battalion Chief of Operations and Commander of ATTACK!!! Company, 1-18IN, deploying the Company to Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria in support of ATLANTIC RESOLVE in 2018. MAJ McCornack was then assigned to the Joint Multinational Readiness Center (JMRC) in 2019 at Hohenfels, Germany serving as an Infantry Company OC-T and Task Force Senior Analyst. Following his assignment at JMRC, MAJ McCornack graduated the Command and General Staff Officer’s Course on the Commandant’s List in 2022, earning a Master’s Degree in Operational Studies, and also graduated the University of Kansas with a Master’s of Science in Organizational Leadership. He was then assigned back to the 82nd Airborne Division, serving as the Division G39 and Officer in Charge of the Information Warfare Task Force, Battalion Executive Officer for 2-501 PIR, and Brigade Executive Officer for 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.
MAJ McCornack currently serves as the Assistant Professor of Military Science for the University of Alabama at Birmingham ROTC. He is a graduate of the Airborne, Air Assault, Jumpmaster, Pathfinder, and Ranger schools, the Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course, the Stryker Leader’s Course, the Basic Military Mountaineering Course, the Army Basic Instructor Course, and he also completed a Strategic Broadening Seminar in Counterterrorism at the Israeli Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel. His awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (3OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (4OLC), and the Army Achievement Medal (4OLC), as well as the Master Combat and Expert Infantryman's Badges, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Pathfinder Torch, the Mountaineering Ram’s Head, and the Ranger Tab. He is a Distinguished Member of the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment and a lifetime member of the National Infantry Association, 82nd Airborne Association, 504th Parachute Infantry Association, and the Phi Alpha Theta National History Honors Society.
MAJ McCornack is married to Hannah McCornack, a Medical Laboratory Scientist by trade, and they and their daughter Charlotte (5) currently reside in Trussville, AL.
